ABOUT THE WORK:
Combining natural materials like stone, slate , leather, bone and bronze is an essential
part of my work. With these materials I try to convey my interest in ancient cultures,
their lives and rituals as is seen in the landscape. The work imparts an essence of their
lives and respect for the land.
My interest in archaeology has developed my knowledge of the Bronze Age which
has led to my involvement with experimental bronze casting symposia using
techniques 4,000 years old e.g. stone and clay mould casting.
Because of the nature of my work I created site specific sculpture in Ireland, Poland,
Germany and Scotland. I am actively involved with art development in my own
community and have written essays, surveys and reports on the arts in Roscommon.
