SELECTED REVIEWS AND TESTIMONIALS:
“In the abstract Anne Rigney produce striking and provoking work”
Ian Wieczorek. Art Critic -- The Irish Times ,1995. Review of “ Through the Looking Glass”, touring exhibition,
The Roscommon Library and the Basement Gallery Dundalk
“The artist makes generous use of collage materials, mainly textiles and bits of broken mirror and natural forms allied to a strident use of expressionist colour-the textiles suggest the inherent role of women as a domestically confined weaver and seamstress”
Review for “And there were bluebells” at The Kenny Gallery, Galway, 1997.
Tom O’Reilly, The Irish Times
“It is a sign of Anne Rigney’s commitment and her talent that she has already produced a body of work that bears a distinctive and unmistakable signature.”
Brian Lynch, Author of Tony O' Malley
From Brochure "And there were bluebells"
Anne’s paintings are a reflection of the subject matter that interests her. Life is constantly changing and everything is in a constant state of flux. Speaking of her art, Anne says “I find my painting and art bring me into harmony with myself and the cosmos. Colour and the changing colours of nature are what interest me the most. Decaying leaves in the autumn, reflections in a pool of water or river which are constantly changing and full of energy- this is a reflection of the mind which is always busy and active, at the same time showing a calm exterior.” Anne endeavours to bring a meditative quality to her work – entering a space which is bursting with energy and yet calm. The paradox of this quality she tries to imbue in her work.
