Commemorating the Irish Famine, was an exhibition of artists from the West of Ireland by Roscommon County Council. To commemorate the 150th year anniversary of the Irish Famine, 13 artists were selected to exhibit interpretations of the history and events involved in the Irish Famine.
One particular artwork from artists Dympna Molloy and Noel Molloy, a performance in memory of those who died, entitled 'The Famine Walk' where both artists undertook the journey from Roscommon town to Frenchpark, a journey which many endured during the times of the famine. On the 27th of June, 1995, the hottest day of that year, Dympna and Noel walked 24 miles, making an approximately 12 hour journey, tying a red rose and a black ribbon at each mile. The artists walked to the Old Courthouse Gallery for the opening where Dympna Molloy recited a poem in epitaph to those who died between 1845-1849.
The exhibition toured Ireland from Roscommon to Dublin.
WAR Artists included: Frances Crowe, Joe Cunniffe, Honor Fitzgerald, Anne Rigney, Dympna Molloy and Noel Molloy.
